Virgin Islands Port Authority Scores a $22.4 Million US DOT Port Infrastructure Development Program Grant
The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) has been awarded a $22.4 Million Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) grant from the US Department of Transportation. PIDP funds will be used to reconstruct and modernize the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick (WBAT) marine terminal in St. Croix which is over 40 years old.
The project includes the replacement of pile caps, repair of concrete piles, concrete and steel deck repairs, repairs to mooring foundations, replacement of mooring bollards, and extensive pavement reconstruction in the container yard.
VIPA’s project was centered on having an operational port facility following a catastrophic weather event which is most commonly in the form of a hurricane in the Virgin Islands. WBAT is critical cargo facility for the Virgin Island residents as it receives the majority of cargo for island needs.
Kalbacher Associates was pleased to prepare the US DOT Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA) for the VIPA grant application.
